CENTER FOR MATHEMATICAL MODELING UNIVERSIDAD DE CHILE
Applications are called for a four-year position as researcher in Mathematical Modeling and Algorithmics for Big-Data Analysis at the Center for Mathematical Modeling (www.cmm.uchile.cl) of Universidad de Chile, starting before October 2015. A Ph.D. in mathematics, statistics, computer science, electrical engineering or related fields is requested. In any case, background in mathematics will be required.
Candidates are expected to exhibit a good record of publications and ability to participate in and/or lead applied research projects. The selected researcher will be involved in applied, industrial, or public policy projects currently developed by CMM, in areas such as astroinformatics, bioinformatics and omics science, remote sensing for geophysics/mining/natural resources, network economics and finance, risk analysis, image/signal processing and high performance computing.
Teaching load is low. A one-semester course at the undergraduate or graduate level per year is required. In addition, academic activities such as student mentoring and organization of thematic seminars are expected.
The salary will depend on qualifications of the candidate, starting for an assistant professor at $ 2.500.000 (US$ 4000 approx.) per month before taxes, for 12 months a year. One or two-year research-leading project experience after Ph.D. will be well evaluated. Over this salary, CMM ́s researchers can apply to extra incentives and funding for research and applied activities coming from the National Research Council (CONICYT), from the industry and from international cooperative grants.
