The Center for Mathematical Modeling (CMM) of the University of Chile invites applications for joint research fellowships starting in Fall 2024 or Spring 2025.
The selected fellows will spend a period (typically one semester) at the Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing as Simons-Berkeley Fellows and will also be appointed to a postdoctoral position at the CMM. While at the Simons Institute of Computing, the successful applicant will be expected to participate in one of the following semester-long research programs:
- In Summer 2024, “Sublinear Algorithms”
- In Fall 2024, “Modern Paradigms in Generalization” and “Special Year on Large Language Models and Transformers: Part 1”
- In Spring 2025, “Special Year on Large Language Models and Transformers: Part 2”
See https://simons.berkeley.edu/programs/current.
Before or after their stay at the Simons Institute of Computing, the research fellows should spend at least 6 months at CMM. Longer stays are encouraged. For information on current research activities at CMM see https://www.cmm.uchile.cl.
The fellowships offer a competitive salary and are intended for exceptional young scientists with a recent PhD (within at most five years of the award of their PhD at the start of academic year 2024-25). Applications from women and other STEM minorities are particularly encouraged.
Applications must be submitted through the Application Form below not later than December 1st, 2023, to ensure full consideration. Applications consist of the following documents: a cover letter, a Curriculum Vitae (including a list of publications), a research statement.
In addition, applicants should arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent directly by the recommenders by December 15, 2023, to postdocscmm@cmm.uchile.cl.
Applicants are required to simultaneously apply to a research fellowship at the Simons Institute for the Theory of Computing at UC Berkeley as part of the CMM/Simons Berkeley joint fellowships. Details on the application process of the Simons Institute can be found at
https://simons.berkeley.edu/research-fellowship-call-applications.
Decisions on the applications will be made jointly by CMM and the Simons Institute for Computing.
