The Center for Mathematical Modeling (CMM, Santiago) of the University of Chile and the Institut Elie Cartan de Lorraine (IECL, Metz) of the University of Lorraine are opening a joint postdoctoral position in mathematics focusing on optimization, stochastic control, game theory and numerical methods.
CMM is one of the leading mathematical research institutions in Latin America, developing both theoretical and applied lines of research. For more information on the center see: https://www.cmm.uchile.cl
Founded more than 70 years ago, the Institut Elie Cartan de Lorraine is one of the largest French mathematics laboratories and the largest in the Grand Est region. The laboratory covers the entire field of mathematics: it conducts research in fundamental mathematics [geometry, analysis, number theory] and in applied mathematics [probability, statistics, partial differential equations].
This postdoctoral position is part of the French ANR project DREAMeS, Numerical methods for decision: Dynamic preferences and multivariate risks.
The duration of the position is two years, including the first year in France and the second year in Chile. The starting date is flexible, but preferably not later than October 2024. The position is a research position and do not carry any teaching responsibilities (although teaching opportunities can be provided).
Successful applicants will be supervised by Alejandro Jofré, researcher at the CMM and full professor at the University of Chile, and Nabil Kazi-Tani, researcher at IECL and full professor at the University of Lorraine. They will have the opportunity to interact and work with both teams at the CMM, including Nicolás Hernández Santibáñez, and IECL, and with the members of the DREAMeS ANR project.
Candidate profile: Ideal candidates should show outstanding research potential and hold a PhD in applied mathematics, preferably in probability or statistics, optimization, or numerical analysis.
Application instructions: Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae (including a list of publications) and a research statement, both in pdf format. Applicants should also arrange for two letters of recommendation to be sent directly to the email adresses below. Applications must be sent by mail to Alejandro Jofré (ajofre@dim.uchile.cl) and Nabil Kazi-Tani (nabil.kazi-tani@univ-lorraine.fr).
We will accept applications until the position is filled.
CMM and IECL are committed to foster diversity at all levels. Applications from women and other STEM minority candidates are strongly encouraged. CMM and IECL have a gender and diversity committee educating and training their respective members, promote diversity in all their teams, and are dedicated to improving the work-life balance of their members, including access to parental leave.
