Casa de Bello is first in the discipline at the national level and third in Latin America. Only six Chilean universities stand out in the discipline, three of which are part of the Center for Mathematical Modeling.
In the latest survey by the consulting firm Quacquarelli Symonds, known as QS Universities Ranking by Subject, the Universidad de Chile continues to stand out in Mathematics, obtaining first place nationally (global position 114) and third place in Latin America, only after the Universidade de São Paulo in Brazil and the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
These results show a sustained presence of state universities with great research capacity and excellent performance in the Latin American context.
This is largely the result of the work carried out by researchers from the Center for Mathematical Modeling, CMM, of the University of Chile, many of whom are also academics from the Department of Mathematical Engineering of the same university.
At the national level, only six universities stand out for their performance in the discipline, including the Universidad de Concepción and the Universidad Técnica Federico Santa María, houses of study from which a significant number of researchers who are part of the CMM come from.
“It is a great pride for the Center that the research of the University of Chile and our partner universities is highlighted in this ranking. The constant appearance in this and other rankings is a consequence of the excellent level of our contributions to the discipline and speaks very well of our leadership, both locally and internationally”, director of the CMM Dr. Héctor Ramírez commented.
“The fact that Chile has six universities in this ranking is also a consequence of our important positioning as a country in a discipline that is highly competitive worldwide,” added Dr. Ramirez.
The QS ranking is a measurement carried out by this international firm specialized in higher education that classifies the 1,300 best universities, based on an evaluation of 1,673 houses of study around the world, in different areas of knowledge.
