Raimund Bürger is the only international researcher participating in the Second Queretaro School of Mathematics, which will be held at UNAM.
Starting next Monday, the 30th, and lasting for a week, the scientific event ‘2nd Queretaro School of Mathematics’ will be held, organized by the Institute of Mathematics of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), Juriquilla campus, located in that city in the state of Querétaro.
The only speaker from a non-Mexican university participating in this event at this prestigious North American institution will be Dr. Raimund Bürger, an academic at the University of Concepción (UdeC) and researcher at the Center for Mathematical Modeling (CMM) at the University of Chile.
The event aims to explore mathematical tools applied to complex problems through the study of numerical methods for solving differential equations and the analysis of relevant mathematical models.
The also subdirector of the Center for Research in Mathematical Engineering (CI²MA) at the University of Concepción explained that “I was invited by Dr. Gerardo Hernández-Dueñas, an academic at that institute, whom I have known for many years. He has visited CI²MA, we have met at several conferences, and he has also hosted the postdoctoral studies of Néstor Sánchez, a graduate of our doctoral program, so we already have several ties of contact”.
Regarding the content he will present in Querétaro, Dr. Bürger also explained that “I will teach a nine-hour course entitled Numerical Methods for Conservation Laws with Applications to Sedimentation Models, which summarizes the mathematical foundations of my specialty in a condensed form”.
In addition, he will give a plenary talk entitled ‘Numerical solution of multispecies kinematic flow models through invariant-region-preserving WENO schemes’, which recounts the latest advances in an original research topic.
“The organizers (of the school) have indicated to me”, Bürger commented, “their interest in an activity to promote our program, an opportunity that I will take advantage of to publicize the Doctoral Program in Applied Sciences at the University of Concepción”.
