Intereses de Investigación

His research interests focus on the development and application of mathematical methodologies to address complex industrial challenges, with particular emphasis on the mining sector. His work encompasses image processing, optimal design, and the analysis of data derived from remote sensing systems.

He is also engaged in the development of solutions based on sensorization and remote monitoring of water systems, especially aquifers, integrating advanced technologies with mathematical modeling. In this context, he has a strong interest in the use of satellite data and in the design of data infrastructures that enable their storage, processing, and effective use for both scientific and industrial applications.

Biografía

The researcher holds a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Mathematics from the Universidad de Concepción, and a PhD in Mathematical Sciences from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He is currently Full Professor in the Department of Mathematical Engineering and Principal Investigator at the Centro de Modelamiento Matemático of the Universidad de Chile.

He has over two decades of experience in research and development projects, particularly in the mining sector and in applications related to image processing and optimal design. He previously served as Director of the Imaging Laboratory at the CMM, playing a key role in advancing applied research initiatives.

At present, he is Principal Investigator and leads the Digital Mining area at the CMM. He is also Principal Investigator and Director of the P6 project, “Sensorization and Remote Monitoring of Aquifers,” at the Center for Water Technologies (CAPTA). In addition, he serves as coordinator of the Copernicus Project of the University of Chile at the CMM, which develops the satellite data repository provided by the European Union’s Copernicus Programme, and is co-director of the Satellite Imaging Group.
