José Verschae specializes in combinatorial optimization and algorithm analysis. His main area of research is approximation and online algorithms, mostly for scheduling, network design, and search problems on graphs. One of his latest projects focuses on understanding the implications of encountering symmetries in polyhedral combinatorics and how these symmetries can be exploited. In general, he has a broad interest in discrete mathematics, optimization, and theoretical computer science.
Biography
José Verschae is an associate professor at the Institute of Mathematical and Computational Engineering at the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, where he also serves as the curricular director for the Bachelor's Degree in Data Science Engineering. His research focuses on combinatorial optimization, algorithm analysis, and discrete mathematics, highlighting his work on approximation algorithms, the study of matroids and submodular functions, and the understanding of symmetries in polyhedral combinatorics. In addition to his continuous work training new graduate researchers, he actively participates in the international scientific community as an associate editor for high-impact journals such as Discrete Optimization, Acta Informatica, and OR Letters.
