A key to produce science-based tools for ocean governance
Tuesday June 28
1:30 pm – 3pm
OFFICIAL SIDE-EVENT
Ocean governance & marine microbiome:
a science to policy dialogue
A side event in the context of the United Nations Ocean Conference 2022 (Lisbon, 27 June – 1 July, 2022).
With the growing impacts of climate change, as the Ocean’s and the planet’s biodiversity is under threat, the scientific community is paving the way for a better understanding of the Ocean ecosystem as a whole, including the microorganisms, representing some 80% of marine life but still largely ignored in the ocean governance decisions today.
For this side event, policy experts, governments representatives and scientists will explore some key issues bridging science and current policy processes, specially on the High Seas “BBNJ” (Marine Biodiversity of Areas Beyond National Jurisdiction) negotiations and in the definitions of new targets and criteria for area based management tools, including marine protected areas, in the frame of the UNCDB Post-2020 Biodiversity Agenda.
This event will only take place in person.
