Seminar on Dynamical Systems: On the Divergence of Arithmetic Ergodic Averages

Abstract

One of the central questions in ergodic theory is classifying which ergodic averages satisfy Birkhoff’s theorem. In this talk, we study a class of averages that do not necessarily arise from subsequences of integers. We prove a sufficient condition of Gaussian type, in the spirit of the Erdös-Kac theorem, for the strong failure of their pointwise convergence. As an application, we answer a question posed by Donoso, Le, Moreira, and Sun. This is joint work with Sebastián Donoso.
