Particles-based simulations and GPU computing for soft matter science and computer graphics applications
Summary: Particle-based simulation codes used in soft matter science aim at represent the interactions that occur in colloidal suspensions at nanoscale level. These suspensions are a mixture of solid particles of diameter between 100 and 1000 nanometers and a solvent (usually water), all interacting with each other. The main goal when implementing these codes on the GPU is to accelerate the “particle neighbour searching” phase, which is the bottleneck in most lagrangian-based simulations. I will present recent results...
“Second-order characterizations of C1-smooth robustly quasiconvex functions”
Abstract: “Our aim in this talk is to investigate the possibility of using the Fréchet and Mordukhovich second-order subdifferentials to characterize the robust quasiconvexity of C1-smooth functions. We set up a necessary condition for the robust quasiconvexity of C1,1-smooth functions and univariate C1-smooth ones. We also show that the established necessary condition is indeed a sufficient one for the robust quasiconvexity of C1-smooth functions.”

Uniqueness and stability of semi-wavefronts for KPP-Fisher equation with delay
Abstract: In this talk I will preset some recent results on the stability and uniqueness of semi-wavefronts of the equation u_t(t,x)=u_{xx}(t,x)+u(t,x)(1-u(t-h,x)), t >0, x in \R; where the parameter h>0 is a delay. The uniqueness (up to translations) of semi-wavefronts (i.e., solutions in the form u(t,x)=\phi_c(x+ct) satisfying $\phi_c(-\infty)=0$ and $\liminf_{z\to +\infty}\phi_c(z)>0$) is `largely open’ problem. By a simple approach we have obtained the uniqueness (up to translations) of semi-wavefronts for all...
Demostramos...
A new method for showing nonexistence of solutions for a generalized Brezis-Nirenberg problem
Abstract: In this talk I will present new results on the nonexistence of solutions for a generalized hyperbolic Brezis-Nirenberg problem. Here we combine a classical Pohozaev argument with a generalized Hardy inequality. This is joint work with Soledad Benguria (U. Wisconsin).

Breathers and the dynamics of solutions to the KdV type equations
Abstract: Our first aim is to identify a large class of non-linear functions f(⋅) for which the IVP for the generalized Korteweg-de Vries equation does not have breathers or “small” breathers solutions. Also we prove that all small, uniformly in time L^1 ∩ H^1 bounded solutions to KdV and related perturbations must converge to zero, as time goes to infinity, locally in an increasing-in-time region of space of order t^1/2 around any compact set in space. This set is included in the linearly dominated dispersive region x≪t....
A Median-Type Condition for Graph Tiling
Abstract: Komlos determined the asymptotically optimal minimum degree condition for covering a given proportion of vertices of a host graph by vertex-disjoint copies of a fixed graph H. We show that the minimum degree condition can be relaxed in the sense that we require only a given fraction of vertices to have the prescribed degree. Joint work with Diana Piguet.
