Quantum Turbulence and the Gross-Pitaevskii Equation
Abstract: The talk will start by a brief introduction to physical systems displaying regimes of quantum turbulence. The status of several standard models of superfluidity will then be discussed. The rest of the talk will concentrate on models based on the Gross-Pitaevskii equation (GPE). At first sight, the GPE can only describe a vanishing-temperature dilute superfluid. We will explain how these limitations can be lifted and how finite-temperature effects can be obtained by using classical-field models such as the Galerkin-truncated GPE....
Quantitative Characterizations of Regularity Properties of Collections of Sets in Hilbert Spaces.
ABSTRACT: Quantitative characterizations of regularity properties of finite collections of sets will be discussed with the focus on uniform regularity of collections of sets in the Hilbert space setting having in mind applications to convergence analysis of projection algorithms. Primal and dual characterisations of regularity will be presented in terms of certain regularity constants. The relationships between the constants (and the properties) will be demonstrated.
(Sub-)Gradient formulae for probability functions with applications to power management.
Resumen: Given a parameter-dependent random inequality system a probability function assigns to the parameter the probability of satisfying this system. Such functions play a fundamental role in defining so-called probabilistic or chance constraints as they arise in numerous engineering problems (e.g. hydro reservoir management under uncertain inflows or gas network managment under uncertain demand). Probability functions exhibit some inherent nonsmoothness even if the input data (random inequality system and density of the...
Non-intersecting Brownian bridges and the Laguerre Orthogonal Ensemble
Resumen: Consider N non-intersecting Brownian bridges, all starting from 0 at time t = 0 and returning to 0 at time t = 1. The Airy_2 process is defined as the motion of the top path (suitably rescaled) in the large N limit. K. Johansson proved the remarkable fact that the supremum of the Airy_2 process minus a parabola has the Tracy-Widom GOE distribution from random matrix theory. In this talk, I will present a result which shows that the squared maximal height of the top path in the case of finite N is distributed as the top eigenvalue of...
Stability in shape optimization with second variation
Resumen : This is a joint work with Jimmy Lamboley from University Paris Dauphine. We are interested in the question of stability in the eld of shape optimization. Precisely, we prove that under structural assumptions on the hessian of the considered shape functions, the necessary second order minimality conditions imply that the shape hessian is coercive for a given norm. Moreover, under an additional continuity condition for the second order derivatives, we derive precise optimality results in the class of regular...
Strong-majority bootstrap percolation on regular graphs with low dissemination threshold
ABSTRACT: Consider the following model of strong-majority bootstrap percolation on a graph. Let r be some positive integer, and p in [0,1]. Initially, every vertex is active with probability p, independently from all other vertices. Then, at every step of the process, each vertex v of degree deg(v) becomes active if at least (deg(v)+r)/2 of its neighbours are active. Given any arbitrarily small p>0 and any integer r, we construct a family of d=d(p,r)-regular graphs such that with high probability all vertices become active in...
