An optimal algorithm for strict circular seriation.

Event Date: Nov 25, 2020 in ACGO, Seminars

Abstract: Seriation is an exploratory combinatorial data analysis technique to reorder objects into a sequence along a one-dimensional continuum when the only available information among the objects is their pairwise similarity (or dissimilarity). Linear seriation aims at inferring an ordering (permutation) consistent with an underlying linear order of the data. In many cases however, the data objects may be arranged around a closed continuum yielding a rather circular underlying order. In a matrix representation, this can be visualized as a...

Conjetura de Ryser en hipergrafos t-intersectantes.

Event Date: Nov 19, 2020 in Seminario de Grafos, Seminars

On diametrically maximal sets, maximal premonotone maps and premonotone bifunctions.

Event Date: Nov 18, 2020 in Optimization and Equilibrium, Seminars

Abstract: First, we study diametrically maximal sets in the Euclidean space (those which are not properly contained in a set with the samediameter), establishing their main properties. Then, we use these sets for exhibiting an explicit family of maximal premonotone operators. We also establish some relevant properties of maximal premonotone operators, like their local boundedness, and finally we introduce the notion of premonotone bifunctions, presenting a canonical relation between premonotone operators and bifunctions, that extends the well...

Conjuntos Asintóticamente Seccional-Hiperbólicos.

Event Date: Nov 18, 2020 in Dynamical Systems, Seminars

Apportionment Mechanisms under Parity Constraints and the case of Chile and a new Political Constitution.

Event Date: Nov 18, 2020 in ACGO, Seminars

Abstract: How many seats should be allocated to each political party in an election? This question has a long and rich history, and plays a fundamental role in order to ensure appropriate levels of representation in the parliaments. We consider this question in the presence of types (e.g. men and women), where apart from ensuring proportionality at the party level, we also have to find an allocation which is paritary for the types. We consider two different approaches: one of them, with a greedy/local search paradigm, corresponds to a...

Boundedness of hyperbolic components in moduli space.

Event Date: Nov 11, 2020 in Dynamical Systems, Seminars

ABSTRACT: A complex rational map of degree at least 2 is hyperbolic if each of its critical points is attracted to an attracting cycle. For a fixed degree, the hyperbolic rational maps form an open set in the space of rational maps. This open set deduces an open set in the moduli space of rational maps, modulo the Möbius conjugacy. Each component of the deduced open set is a hyperbolic component. In this talk, I will present some precompactness results on hyperbolic components. In particular, I will focus on the space of quartic Newton maps....

Asymptotics for 1D Klein-Gordon equations with variable coefficient quadratic nonlinearities.

Event Date: Nov 10, 2020 in Differential Equations, Seminars

Abstract: The problem of the asymptotic stability of kinks in classical nonlinear scalar field equations on the real line leads to the study of the decay of small solutions to 1D Klein-Gordon equations with variable coefficient quadratic nonlinearities. I will discuss the occurrence of a novel modified scattering behavior of such solutions that involves a logarithmic slow-down of the decay rate along certain rays. It is caused by a striking resonant interaction between specific spatial frequencies of the variable coefficient and the temporal...
